Broadgate Speakers at Speakers Corner, Hyde Park

image Last year Broadgate Speakers led a posse of speakers (what does one call a group of speakers? A gaggle?) to Speakers Corner. They hosted a table topics session and picnic. Everyone had a great time - you can read about it here:

Following that success, Broadgate Speakers are organizing their 2008 Table Topics afternoon at Speakers Corner in Hyde Park. It is at 1.45pm for a 2pm start on Sunday 10th August. And all Toastmasters are invited!

To up the level from last year, the event will this year consist of 4 table topics masters, covering 4 very different themes. These themes are as follows:

1) The Icebreaker table topics. Easy Table topics to get people used to speaking in an unfamiliar environment.

2) Humourous table topics. To get people into the spirit of the event

3) Current Affairs and Political Debate table topics. The session moves up a gear, enabling anyone with an opinion to express it, and any budding politicians to make their mark!

4) The Stinger - this table topics session is not for the faint hearted. It is to challenge even the most advanced speaker.

So there will be a challenge for everyone. To help everyone, there will be an impromptu speaking tutorial prior to the 4 table topics sessions, providing hints, tips and tricks of the trade when it comes to impromptu speaking.

And, being the generous folks that they are, Broadgate will present prizes for the best table topic speaker in each category, and then a prize for the best table topic speaker overall. Indeed, wine and champagne have been mentioned but don’t have a go at me if all you get is a Mars bar!

As mentioned, the event is open to members of all clubs and people of all experience levels.

After, there will be a picnic in Hyde Park. Bring you own food and whatever calming drink you may need after your ordeal!

For those who don’t know where Speakers corner is, it is on the north east corner of Hyde Park. The nearest tube is Marble Arch. Keep a look out for the bright yellow Broadgate Speakers banner! A map is below:

Already, about fifteen people have signed up. It would be great to build the crowd and make this a truly memorable event.
